Max
LISW-S
My name is Maximino Cortes, but most people call me Max. For over 34 years, I have had the privilege of guiding individuals and families as they navigate the challenges in life. Helping people overcome obstacles and discover their inner strength is not just my profession—it’s my calling.
Much of my work has focused on serving the greater Cleveland community through outpatient mental health and substance use programs, as well as in private practice. I also mentor the next generation of social workers as a field instructor for Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve University. Giving back is a core part of who I am, and I have been fortunate to volunteer with the Youth of Hope Ministry at Sacred Family Parish and as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland.
In my sessions, I strive to create a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. My approach is collaborative and strengths-based, and I believe healing is most effective when clients feel actively engaged in the process. I use evidence-based strategies while also incorporating humor to lighten the emotional load and build genuine connections. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing clients recognize their own resilience, embrace empowerment, and move forward with hope and confidence.
